Comment

This work is based on Yasujiro Ozu's "Tokyo Story" that he saw when he was young. TYO Story takes a comical and sometimes satirical look at present day Tokyo and Japan.

Reason for Award

An elderly couple from a small island in Japan's Inland Sea travel to Tokyo to see their son and daughter, now married and living in the capital.City life is a constant hustle, and there's no time left for a leisurely talk about old times. Indeed, the old country home is best of all... or at least, that's the cliche. But in this topsy-turvy work, the old folks take to Tokyo like fish to water, and are soon back again, cellular phones in hand. The creator's cynical urban philosophy, told in a knowing parody of Yasujiro Ozu's classic film "Tokyo Story," is sheer delight. BACK
