Maywa Denki
Created an "Art Unit" with Masamichi & Nobumichi Tosa brothers in 1993. The unit was named after their father's old company, Maywa Denki. They dress in work clothes, call their works "products" and call their live performances "product demonstrations". They are trying to carry on the tradition of the amazing products of the small and medium sized enterprises of Japan and the craftsmanship of the older men who are the foundation of Japanese industry. Their company policy is "He who does it first, wins, he who grabs it first, gets it." Their plan of action is "Hit and Run". Maywa Denki joined Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., LTD in 1998.

In Maywa Denki's performance, a piece that transcends existing definitions of modern art and music, Japan's own distinctive sense of humor and the fine modeling of the traditional craftsman are fused seamlessly with the latest in digital programming.
One of the distinguishing characteristics of 20th Century art has been the search ever more encompassing modes of expression. Maywa's performance shows us how digital technology can contribute mightily to achieving this goal without damaging the elements of traditional culture.
