Jiro OKAZAKI
Born on March 3rd, 1957 in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Graduated from the Design Department of the Tama Art University. Worked in an advertising firm while he worked as a freelance manga artist. Now living in Kunitachi City. Has drawn "After 0", "Neko2" and others.
Thank you very much for this wonderful award.
I have always been told that my works are difficult, too theoretical and boring, so you can image how happy this makes me feel.
I would first like to thank the chief and supervising editors of Shogakukan.
If my story had been left alone, it would have continued to drift here and there.
The editors gave the story focus and, thanks to them, it was a success.
Thanks again for patiently sticking with me for the past three years.
By the way, I live in Kokuritsu (National, meaning in Japanese) not Kunitachi (name of city).
This work would seem to belong to that special genre,the educational manga.
Yet it has none of the clunky awkwardness of most such works.
Instead it strives to fuse the entertainment value of manga with educational content,and succeeds brilliantly on both counts.
The creator's vast knowledge is condensed into this one work;it should be in every library reading room.
