The exhibition took place on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Museum. The award-winning works of the interactive works, installations, visual works, still pictures, and web works in the Art Division were displayed in the second floor exhibition hall. What attracted the audience’s eyes was the Art Division Grand-Prize-winning work,3 minutes2 which was exhibited just inside of the hall entrance. The space was projected on a three dimensional screen which switched between the movements of a man and a woman’s silhouettes one after another, making the audience feel as if they were watching a science fiction scene. Also the screening of O'I'O ,a work which had filmed splashing liquid paints for 11 years and edited using the digital technology, was very impressive with its movements of splattering paints and their vivid colors.

On the 3rd floor, works of the Jury’s Recommendation in the Entertainment Division including MUSHIKING-The King of Beetles, METAL GEAR SOLID3 SNAKE EATER, and resident evil 4, etc. were displayed.

On the monitor screens, short and feature animated films were presented. The Grand-Prize-winning MIND GAME especially attracted a great number of viewers.

Still pictures displayed on the wall. From work representing inner space to highly entertaining works, these lined presentations employed sophisticated digital technologies.

An unusual work, through the looking glass, in which a player can enjoy a hockey game with himself in a mirror drew attention from all ages from children to older men, who actually played the game and enjoyed themselves.

Concept of design for Event Site of 2005[8th]Japan Media Arts Festival

The concept for the open space was “Mind Pillar”.
Symbolically represented the consciousness, cerebration, intention and feeling in the respective works. It was designed as a large symbol piercing through the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. In the exhibition halls where captions for works were projected in the air with built-in LED lights, award-winning works were exhibited in the see-through pillar standing in the center of the hall. The recommended works were arranged around the pillar.
The exhibition space is conceptually designed in a way which retains an interpretation of the world, or the possibilities of formless media arts and the energy of media arts which is constantly expanding.
