(Japan)

NAKAE Yoshio

This award-winning work of four-frame manga is composed of four steps of logical development, which is the basis of any story telling. The last frame is the punch line; the climax of the story. The intention in creating this work was to make that climax interactive. This prize for me, as I am an old man, is like ending "happily ever after"; I am glad that I was not punched out by the competition at the punch line of my life. Thank you very much.
This work makes good use of the advantages of digital media, while maintaining the original style of four-frame manga. Unlike the 'pasted on' manga that is usually found on existing websites, this work is enjoyable precisely because it uses a different form of expression, which is achieved through the use of an interactive function at the last frame. It gives us a good feeling because it appears as though it could have been produced without any high level web construction techniques. This work has greatly expanded the possibility for the expression of, not only four-frame manga, but digital manga in general.
