FUJIKI Jun
Born February 3, 1978. Currently following a doctoral course at the Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University. Taking as his inspiration "expressions that are impossible in reality, but possible in the human mind”, he is searching for an interface interaction that is capable of enriching people's minds.
Last year I won an Encouragement prize in the Entertainment Division and this year I have won a prize in the Art Division; I am very pleased by this, as it means that my work has been recognized as art as well as entertainment. This work uses an interactive trick picture as an example of something that “is possible to envision in the human mind, even though impossible in the real world”. I hope that this work will help to release us from the preconceptions that surround us.
Is it a two dimensional level surface, a three dimensional space, or an image perceived in the mind and displayed on the computer screen? This award-winning work shows us that the mysteries of the inscrutable structural world, such as those made famous by Escher’s works, can be solved simply by placing blocks. The great thing about this work is that it is simple and available to everyone.
How old were you when you "created" something first time in your life? At that time, what did you create, and what kind of medium did you use?
I used LASY blocks. I made many things with them, such as transformable robots and buildings.
What kind of tools or medium do you use now? Please tell us the reason why you choose them.
Computers; they were already my default tools when I realized it.
If you could get "dream tools/medium" for your creation, what do you wish to get?
A tool that is capable of enriching the heart.
Do you have any consistent subject matter or theme through your works? If so, please explain us.
Expressing things that are impossible in reality, but seem possible to the human mind.
Please tell us the most difficult or considerable part when you create your work.
Designing an interface that is not readily recognizable as an interface.
Have you ever felt that your work is a "media art"? Also, what is the difference between "media arts" and "traditional fine arts"?
I believe that there is no essential difference between the media arts and the conventional fine arts.
As an artist/creator, please tell us your approach, stance or point of view when you create your work.
Antithesis.
What is your motto?
“Do things for others.”
What kind of situation in every day life do you get inspired most?
In the normal moments of my daily life.
What kind of vision do you have in your future development as the creator?
I would like to continue creating work the way I currently am.
Please name of the people, things, or phenomena that you have got most influenced by as the creator.
・My family, friends and teachers
What I am today is surely the result of the support I have received from those people.
・Gamebooks
Gamebooks can provide us with an easily accessible interactive world.
・LASY blocks and LEGO blocks
Of all the toys I played with in my childhood, I played with building blocks the longest.
