One Grand Prize, four Excellence Prizes and one Encouragement Prize are awarded in recognition of works of outstanding artistry and creativity in each division. Based on the recommendations of the Jury Committee, Special Achievement Prizes may also be presented to artists who have made significant contributions to the field of media arts.

- At the exhibition of award-winning works, excellent works recommended by the Jury will also be exhibited.
- Award-winning works will be introduced on this official website.
- Awardees will be informed of their honors by the organizer by the beginning of December 2008.
- Awardees may be requested to submit high-resolution data or videos for the exhibition and other purposes.

- Entries must have been produced or released between October 6th, 2007 and September 26th, 2008.
- Works created by professionals, as well as amateurs, can be submitted.
- Works are accepted irrespective of whether they are independent creations or were made for a commercial purpose.
- Applicants are free to incorporate any theme, content, or technique into their work irrespective of division.
- Works that have been submitted as entries to, or have won Prizes in, other contests are also eligible for submission.
- Applicants are not restricted in the number of works they may submit. Those who wish to send work to this exhibition should not enter the same piece of work in more than one division.
- The Manga Division will accept works which are currently serialized in magazines.
- In principle, submitted items will not be returned. Please also note that you will not be receiving a confirmation of your submission.
- Although there is no application fee, all costs incurred in connection with the application will be borne entirely by the applicant.
- Although we will do our utmost to treat your work with the respect it deserves, please be aware that the sponsors will pay no compensation whatsoever for any unexpected damage or loss that might occur. (If necessary, we recommend that you arrange to have your entry insured.)
- We will not respond to any inquiries concerning the process or results of the adjudication process.
- Award winners will be informed by the Secretariat by the beginning of December. The winners might be asked to submit high-resolution data or videotape of their works for exhibition purposes.
- The copyright of any award-winning work will belong to the applicant. In order to announce the results of the adjudication process and engage in other relevant activities, the organizers reserve the right to be able to publicly screen, broadcast, reproduce, print, exhibit, or otherwise distribute the work, or upload the work to their website at no charge, and the applicant shall consent thereto. The same shall apply in the event that PR for the Exhibition of Award-winning Works, hosting a traveling exhibition and screening, publicity for the Japan Media Arts Festival, or similar event is undertaken.
- All applicants must hold the copyrights of the entry works or have permission to enter the works to this contest from the copyright holders.
- Make sure that the consent of the holder of any copyright in any work of art, film, photography, or music used in the work to be submitted is obtained before applying. In the event that an assertion of infringement of right or claim for compensation is made by a third party, the applicant will be required to respond on his or her own responsibility. The organizers accept no responsibility whatsoever for the contents of entries.
- The applicant shall be deemed to have agreed to these Contest Rules on submitting his or her work.
Recognizing the importance of the protection of privacy, Japan Media Arts Festival will handle personal information in accordance with the following policy so as to prevent leaks, diversion, or falsification, etc of personal information.
1.Purpose of usage of personal information
The personal information of applicants of this contest will be used only within the scope of purpose of usage as follows:
- (1) To announce the results of auditions
- (2) To inform points to be checked on the works entered
- (3) Statistical analysis to help improve this contest
- (4) Offering information related to this contest (In case an applicant does not wish to receive this information, it shall be terminated by mutual agreement.)
- (5) Announcement of award-winners of this contest on the official website or in the media (the work, name, affiliation, etc.)
Apart from the above purposes, the personal information may be used within the scope given by the assent of the individual.
2.Disclosure and provision to third parties
We shall not disclose or provide personal information of this contest to third parties apart from subcontractors within the necessary scope of usage in order to accomplish the purposes of such usage without the assent of the individual. An exception to the above will be made in cases where it is necessary to disclose such information to protect human life, body or assets when it is difficult to gain the agreement of the individual and/or the law requires disclosure of personal information.
3.Information Security Administration
Personal information of applicants of this contest shall be managed and protected in an appropriate manner.
The aforementioned contents of "Handling of Personal Information" shall be thought to have the agreement of the applicant himself/herself and/or the creator who is indicated on the entry sheet upon application (including entry through the website).
