Approximately 180 outstanding works of art, entertainment, animations, and manga selected from among 2,592 entries from 54 nations and regions will be exhibited. Award-winning works and jury-recommended works will be displayed by division. What is "media arts"? This exhibition allows audiences to experience the present state of media arts, which are in constant flux as they keep pace with times.

[Art Division]
The Art Division has become increasingly internationalized, attracting approximately 40 percent of its entries from abroad. Hands-on works with themes such as "the relationship between nature and human beings" and "media and embodiment" were selected for this exhibition.

[Entertainment Division]
The development of technology and changes in the social environment have significantly transformed entertainment works. This division provides the opportunity to encounter genre-transcending works whose interest lies not only in their entertainment value.

[Animation Division]
This division features works ranging from privately produced short animations to commercially produced long animations, including films for theater and television, and high-level animation works in various genres. Also on display are valuable materials including storyboards, which give us an insight into the production processes.

[Manga Division]
This year's award-winning works all depict human depth using various subjects including history, nature, and science fiction. Original pictures showing the exquisite techniques employed by the artists will also be on display, and there will be space for visitors to sit down and read the works. This year, for the first time ever, a work by a foreign artist won an Encouragement Prize.

[Special Achievement Prize/Memorial Achievement Prize]
The exhibit will include games by MIYAMOTO Shigeru, the Special Achievement Prize winner. Visitors will also be able to play the featured games, from Donkey Kong to New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The exhibition of the Memorial Achievement Prize features the footprints that KANADA Yoshinori has developed in his animations, such as the drawing tools, notes, and storyboards he has used for long time.
The Computer Graphics Contest for Students has become established as a stepping-stone in the field of media arts. Outstanding works selected from among 1,173 works entered into three divisions, i.e. Still Division, Animation Division, and Interactive Division will be exhibited. We hope you will visit and view the works, which were created with the ideas and passions that only students can have. The award ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the exhibition hall of The National Art Center, Tokyo.

To mark the 30th anniversary of "Ars Electronica," an international media art festival held in Linz, Austria, MOT will hold a special exhibition of creations from the fields of art, technology, science, and media art in Japan. Many of the creations such artists, including TOMITA Isao, SAKAMOTO Ryuichi & IWAI Toshio, and Maywa Denki, have produced for the festival will be featured in this exhibition. Through participation-oriented interactive works, workshops, and video showings, the exhibition will explore new possibilities for expression in science techonology, society and art, including new hybrid territories such as space art.
This is a collaborative exhibition of the Japan Media Arts Festival.
