Body / Traces is a stop-motion digital animation created from 7000 3D Laser scans. New media artist Sophie KAHN reconstructed choreographer Lisa PARRA’s movement sequences, scanning the dancer with a DIY 3D Laser scanner, built from a laser level and LEGO, and rendering the 7000 scans, which Lisa then re-animated. During the process, they addressed the questions: What happens to the body in motion when it becomes a still image? And, what becomes of that image when it is reconstructed as motion?
