One “Grand Prize,” four “Excellence Prizes” and one “Encouragement Prize” are awarded in recognition of works of outstanding artistry and creativity in each division. Based on the recommendations of the jury, one “Special Achievement” Prize is presented to an artist who has made significant contributions to the field of media arts.

- Your work must have been produced or released between 26 September 2009 and 24 September 2010. Works that have been updated during this period are also eligible.
- Regarding the Manga Division, works currently being serialized in magazines are acceptable.
- Works created by professionals and amateurs, and commercial and non-commercial works can be entered without distinction.
- Themes, contents and techniques are free in all divisions.
- Works that have been entered, or have won prizes in other contests may also be entered.
- There is no restriction on the number of works that can be applied. However, a work should not be entered in more than one division.
Please read the above Eligibility section and the following Required Materials section carefully.
The online registration is not enough to complete your entry. You must submit the required materials corresponding to your work to the secretariat office
- In principle, submissions will not be returned. Please also note that applicants will not receive a confirmation of submission.
- Although there is no entry fee, all costs incurred in connection with the entry will be borne entirely by the applicant.
- Please note that your entry division may be changed depending on the format of the work.
- Although we (the organizers) will do our utmost to treat submissions with the respect they deserve, please be aware that we will pay no compensation whatsoever for any unexpected damage or loss that might occur. (If necessary, we recommend that you arrange to have your entry insured.)
- We will not be responding to any inquiries concerning the review process or the results of the contest.
- The copyright of any award-winning works will belong to the applicant. In order to announce the results of the contest and engage in other relevant activities, we reserve the right to publicly screen, broadcast, reproduce, print, exhibit, or otherwise distribute the work, or upload the work to the official website at no charge, and the applicant shall consent thereto. The same shall apply in the event of publicity for the Exhibition of Award-Winning Works, hosting a touring exhibition and screening, publicity for the Japan Media Arts Festival, or where a similar event, is undertaken.
- All applicants must hold the copyrights of the entered works or must have permission from the copyright holders to enter the works to the festival.
- When the entered work contains art works such as art, film, photography, or music which have copyrights, the applicants have to obtain permission to use the art works from the copyright owner before entry. In the event that an assertion of infringement of copyright holders or claim for compensation is made by a third party, the applicant will be required to respond on his or her own responsibility. We accept no responsibility whatsoever for the contents of the entered work.
- The applicant shall be deemed to have agreed to these contest regulations on entering his or her work.
Recognizing the importance of the protection of privacy, the Japan Media Arts Festival will handle personal information in accordance with the following policy so as to prevent leaks, diversion, or falsification, etc. of personal information.
1.Purpose of usage of personal information
The personal information of applicants will be used only within the following scope of purpose for usage:
- (1) Announcement of the results of the contest
- (2) Communication concerning the check items for the works entered
- (3) Statistical analysis to help improve the Japan Media Arts Festival
- (4) Provision of information related to the Japan Media Arts Festival (if an applicant does not wish to receive this information, this may be terminated through mutual agreement)
- (5) Announcement concerning the awardees of the Japan Media Arts Festival on the official website or in the media (the work, name, affiliation, etc)
Apart from the above purposes, personal information may be used within the scope given by the assent of the individual.
2.Disclosure and provision to third parties
We shall not disclose or provide any personal information of applicants to any third parties, apart from subcontractors within the necessary scope of usage in order to accomplish the purposes for such usage, without the assent of the individual. An exception to the above will be made in cases where it is necessary to disclose such information to protect human life, health, or assets when it is difficult to acquire the assent of the individual and/or if the law requires the disclosure of the personal information.
3.Information Security Administration
The personal information of applicants in this contest shall be managed and protected in an appropriate manner.
The aforementioned contents of “Handling of Personal Information” shall be considered to have the agreement of the applicant himself/herself and/or the creator who is indicated during registration through the website.
